School Transportation Accident Statistics
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, since 2000 approximately 1,386 people have died in school transportation-related crashes. This is defined as a crash that involves, either a school bus vehicle, or a non-school bus vehicle functioning as transportation for children to or from school, or school-related activities. That means any crash between a car and any organized transportation of students and children for school reasons, is considered a school transportation-related crash. According to the NHTSA, approximately 130 people die in school transportation-related crashes each year in the United States.
Trucking and Commercial Vehicle Accident Statistics
According to the Fatality Analysis Reporting System, there were over 3,000 deaths linked to large trucking accidents in 2014 alone. That majority of those fatalities were associated with wrecks that occurred in the front of the truck, as in a head-on collision.
Commercial vehicles are a great way to transport goods across the country, but they also add a unique, and potentially dangerous element to the roadways. Commercial trucks make up 2% of traffic on US highways. These drivers are trained by individual companies and given specific licenses to drive semi trucks. However, many factors can cause a trucking accident that no amount of training can prepare a driver for.
